[ARCHIVED] General Plan Notice of Intent to Adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration

Notice is hereby given that the City of Avenal has completed an Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act for the Avenal General Plan Update and a series of stand-alone Sustainability Implementation Programs to address recent changes in State law. The stand-alone Sustainability Implementation Programs include an Economic Development Plan, an Active Transportation & Safe Routes to School Plan, and a Water Management Plan. No specific construction-level development is proposed and no physical changes to the environment would directly result from adoption and implementation of the proposed project.

The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requires this notice to disclose whether any listed hazardous material sites are present at the location. There is one hazardous material site, as defined by Government Code Section 65962.5, within the Study Area. This site, located on the corner of Union Street and Kern Street, consists of an approximately 12-acre site that was previously used for dry crop farming of wheat and barley.

The IS/MND and all documents referenced therein are available for public review at the Community Development Department office located at 919 Skyline Boulevard, Avenal, CA 93204. The City of Avenal encourages you to submit comments on the content of the IS/MND. The 30-day public review period for the IS/MND begins on January 22, 2018 and continues through February 20, 2018. All comments must be submitted by 5:00 pm on February 20, 2018. Comments can be submitted in the following ways:
