The City's Zoning Ordinance determines the land uses within the city's jurisdiction. Each parcel in the city is assigned within a zone district, which describes the regulations and requirements under which that land may be utilized for. The Zoning Ordinance identifies allowable uses and sets development standards such as minimum lot size, maximum building height, and minimum front yard depth.

Land Division Ordinance
The City's Land Division Ordinance helps facilitate the division of land and Lot Line Adjustments Pursuant to the California Subdivision Map Act (SMA). The Ordinance guides the regulation and process of any Subdivision, parcel or Adjustment that will effect real property within the City of Avenal.
